Bodegas Paso Robles is dedicated to producing wines using Spanish and Portuguese varietals. They take old world vines and make new world wines of the highest quality with the least invasive winemaking practices. Their grapes, although grown in California, are native to Spain and Portugal and have been used for centuries in Iberian winemaking.
All their wines are hand-crafted and aged in premium French and American barrels. Their red wine blends are based on Tempranillo, one of the most extensively planted grapes in both Spain and Portugal. This grape is becoming increasingly popular in California, which seems to make sense because its climate and terrain are so similar to that of the Iberian Peninsula.
The Bodegas tasting room is open, airy, and walk-in ready, with standing room for a dozen or so tasters but works most effectively when there are smaller numbers, so that the pourer can engage more directly with individual taster. Tiny but quaint, the only thing missing was some crackers or cheese to cleanse the palate.
