In all four vineyards careful soil mapping has resulted in matching of variety and site, with all of the major varieties represented. The quality of grapes retained for the Thorn-Clarke label has resulted in a succession of trophy and gold medal winning wines at very competitive prices.

The Martin family, headed by Fernando and Jeanette, purchased the old Dorrien winery from the Seppelt family in 1984, officially opening it as Chateau Dorrien on 13 January 1985. In 1990 the family purchased Twin Valley Estate and moved the winemaking operations of Chateau Dorrien to the Twin Valley site. Ballycroft was originally the name of the cheesery run by sisters Sue Evans and Tracey Skepper. Waste water was utilised to irrigate the young vines and whey used as fertilizer. Unfortunately the cheesery ceased operating in 2011 but the distinctive logo still graces the Small Berry wine bottles. The vineyard, planted in 1998 sits on a sloping 15 acre property in Greenock, Western Barossa Valley. The Scholz family have been grapegrowers for generations and have over 40ha of vineyards, selling part of the crop. Current-generation winemakers Peter and Michael Scholz make rich, ripe, velvety wines under their own label, some marketed with some bottle age.The 100 acre Willows Vineyard ranges from deep alluvial soils, ideal for root development and the vigour of Cabernet and Semillon, to red brown loam over clay and tough sandy soils where old Shiraz vines produce premium quality fruit.

The vineyard is planted to shiraz, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot, mataro and semillon with blocks of old vine grenache and riesling. Their winemaking philosophy is to deliver wines that are true expressions of this land that they come from, offering complexity, finesse and refreshment. In order to achieve this they employ traditional winemaking techniques such as open top fermenters, gentle pressing, judicious fine oak and meticulous attention to detail.
