An appetiser or side dish to have with rice & curry

Cooking time 15 - 20 mins
Main Ingredient Prawns


500 gms (1 pound) small / medium green prawns cleaned.

1 tbs lime pickle

2 Onions, sliced

1 large Green or Red Pepper (Capsicum), sliced

3 cloves garlic - minced

2 tsp minced ginger 

6 - 8 curry leaves (can be omitted if not available)

1 tsp black ground Mustard seed

1 tsp Sugar

2 tsps Chilli Powder (medium to hot) to taste

1/2 cup  white vinegar

salt to taste


1 Mix together the mustard, garlic and ginger with vinegar.

2 Add sugar, chilli powder, lime pickle and salt to taste. Mix well. 

3 Heat the oil in medium sized frying pan. Add peppers/capsicum. Cook on medium heat for 2/3 minutes  

4 Add mixture above and fry for another 2/3 minutes to make a masala. Set aside

5 In a separate pan/wok deep fry the shrimp until just turning pink (high heat), a few minutes.

 5 Reduce heat to medium and add curry leaves and other ingredients. Cook for a further 2/3 minutes 

7 Eat as an appetiser or serve with rice & curry.

Note. Traditionally small prawns are used & eaten whole.
