Hearty winter casserole with green beans & middle eastern spices


Yield 4 servings

Main Ingredient Lamb


1 lb (1/2 kilo) diced lamb

1 Ib (1/2 kilo) frozen or fresh green beans

16 oz canned crushed tomatoes

4 oz. canned tomato puree

1 medium onion, chopped

2 cloves garlic, crushed

1 tsp coriander

1/2 tsp cumin

1/8 tsp allspice


1  Brown lamb in a large saucepan with olive oil at medium heat

2 Add onions & garlic and cook for a further 3- 5 minutes

3  Add tomatoes, cumin, salt , pepper and allspice and stir together with the lamb mix

4 Add the water and puree, stir until well combined

5 Add green beans and increase heat so that the mixture boils

6 Partially cover the saucepan, reduce  heat so that the mixture slowly simmers for about 2 hours or until meat is tender

7  Stir periodically & check to see if mixture is reducing to a thick gravy consistency. If necessary add extra water or 1-2 tbs of plan flour to get desired result

8  Serve with hot white rice
