Spicy marinated fish salad

Main Ingredient Fish


2 pounds ( 1kg) cubed white fish  - firm fleshed. Raw scallops can be substituted for some fish quantities 

5 - 10  diced Serrano or jalapeño chillies (preserved can be used) adjust number to taste

1  diced red bell pepper (capsicum)

1 diced long green  chilli

1 Onion, diced

3  diced ripe medium/large tomatoes

1 - 2 cloves Garlic, minced

1 large ripe avocado, diced

1 bunch Cilantro (coriander), with stems removed and diced

1 tsp sugar

2 cups lime juice

1/2 cup Lemon juice

Pinch Salt and pepper

1 packet of tortilla chips or saltine crackers for serving


1 In a large bowl  mix all ingredients except half the avocado, cilantro (coriander) & chips/crackers

2 Mix gently ensuring the fish is well coated with the lime/lemon mixture

3 Cover bowl and refrigerate for 1- 3 hours stirring occasionally.

4 Sprinkle a little lemon or lime juice on the remaining avocado flesh to stop browning

5 When the fish has turned white and the scallops have lost their translucent appearance the dish can be served

6 Serve with tortilla chips or saltine crackers
