Gordon Rock

There are 44 countries in Europe and whilst there are many common Easter themes including Easter rabbits, lambs and of course, chocolate Easter Eggs, each country’s Easter celebrations are, in some way, unique to that country.

Some European countries celebrate the arrival of spring rather than the religious significance of Easter which mark the sorrow of the crucifixion of Christ on Good Friday followed by His glorious ascension into heaven on Easter Sunday.

For Orthodox countries such as Greece, Cyprus and Bulgaria, Easter is the most important religious festival in the their calendar, whereas in many northern European countries, including the United Kingdom, France and Germany, Easter is second in importance to Christmas.
