Instead they sell fresh produce, homemade Indonesian snacks, bulk tofu, some meats, various Asian and Mexican products (palm sugar, fish sauce, Bimbo cakes, shrimp crackers, tortillas, weird Indonesian ramens with like 50 spice and flavoring packets, queso fresco, etc), fresh baked pastries, all at very cheap prices. Seriously, as cheap as you think it might be, it is cheaper.
If you love Asian groceries, organic products, and chocolate then don;t go anywhere else. This place does really delicious fresh vietnamese hoagies! My favorites are the tofu and the roasted pork.
This Indian grocery store had the best selection and service in the University City area. This is the place to get Indian groceries in Philadelphia. They've got such a tremendous selection of legumes, condiments, chaat mixes, nuts and fruits, I find things here that I can find nowhere else in the city. If you adore Ethiopian injeeras, you can get a nice sack of them to keep you full for days.
It's a huge indoor market - they sell everything from candles, linens, & numerous gift items, to donuts, fresh cannollis, beef jerky, pizza, and pretty much any type of food you can think of or imagine! An assortment of differing kinds of food, ranging from Asian, middle eastern, even to Amish! (there were in fact, a lot of Amish food). Always popping with energy and full of diverse options and delicious food.
Dana Mandi is a great spot to know about in University City. First the store itself is loaded with food stuffs from the Indian sub-continent. Lot of indian groceries are available. Do try out!
Frozen galangal (laos), banana leaf, pandanus leaf, and a myriad of sauces, noodles, spices are available here. They also have a section of prepared foods that are authentic recipes. It is unassuming from the outside and smallish on the inside but it is #1 for Indonesian. Prices are comparable to the other Asian groceries in the city, but what makes Ramayana Store stand out is its welcoming vibe and the rather extensive selection of imported goods.

Get your cheap veggies and ingredients for Thai, Vietnamese, Korean and Japanese items, Great produce that lasts much longer than the average grocery store. Hard to navigate if you're only English speaking. Very friendly staff. HUGE selection of chili paste/sauce and all of the curry you could want.

This place really does have all the assortment of goods you need to make Asian cuisine, whether its Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese, Koreans, or Indonesian(probably more, There is even half an aisle devoted specifically to japanese goods.This place has everything you need for your Asian kitchen. Prices are good and they have a wonderful bakery around the corner with the best Bon Mei ever.
