On October 9, 1820, the port-city of Guayaquil proclaimed its independence from Spain, the leaders of the movement set the government and formed the military forces to protect the Sovereignty, which finally was secured by the defeat of the Royalist forces loyal to Spain at the Battle of Pichincha  a volcano next to Quito  on 24 May 1822. 
 

During October, the celebration of the Independence of Guayaquil features many artistic and cultural endeavors in city of Guayaquil, which is now called “The Pearl of the Pacific”. A citywide party is held yearly in Guayaquil to celebrate Independence Day. There is a big military parade through the streets of old city of Quito at Independence Day and so numerous are the civil feasts during that day, rock concerts and fireworks.
